Kanad Hospital, formerly known as Oasis Hospital, was established in 1960. It was launched following a direct invitation from the Father of the Nation, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan. The hospital was founded by American physicians, Dr. Pat and Mariam Kennedy. Their primary purpose was to honor God by delivering compassionate and loving healthcare to the people of this region. From its very beginning, Kanad Hospital quickly became known for outstanding obstetric and pediatric care. It is recognized as one of the leading healthcare institutions dedicated to women and children throughout the Middle East. The hospital is currently owned by True Sojourners, a humanitarian organization based in the United States. As a not-for-profit entity, it is committed to faithfully following the teachings of Jesus in the manner in which care is offered.
Kanad Hospital holds the distinction of being the first medical facility established in the Abu Dhabi Emirate.It carries the profound honor of being the birthplace of many national leaders, including the current UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It was the first private hospital in the Emirate to obtain accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI). Furthermore, Kanad Hospital became the first medical institution globally to earn JCI Clinical Care Program Certifications for groundbreaking, specialized programs, including the treatment of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in newborns and the Natural Birth After Cesarean Section program for mothers.
