The Muhakat program represents a key Emiratization initiative designed to introduce high school and university students to real-life work environments in the healthcare sector. Launched in 2012, the program initially attracted around 200 students who had the opportunity to visit SEHA facilities and observe services such as pharmacy operations, laboratory work, and emergency care procedures. Over time, Muhakat has expanded significantly and now draws approximately 500 Emirati students each year from nearly 30 schools in Abu Dhabi. The program offers practical exposure, enabling young learners to make informed decisions about future careers based on hands-on experience. It welcomes students from the ninth grade through high school, as well as participants from various university programs seeking insight into medical and healthcare professions.
All employees across the organization are expected to review and understand the Orientation Handbook. The handbook outlines human resource policies, organizational expectations, and procedures relevant to daily operations. Familiarity with these guidelines ensures consistency, compliance, and professionalism throughout the network.
SEHA also administers an established Medical Internship Program, which supports the professional development of UAE nationals—and, when space permits, non-nationals—pursuing a career in medicine. As the largest healthcare organization in Abu Dhabi, SEHA provides an ideal training environment for medical graduates transitioning into clinical practice. The internship encompasses a one-year training period completed after graduation from an approved medical program. It consists of several supervised clinical rotations across major specialties. The primary objective of the program is to reinforce medical knowledge and clinical skills by engaging interns in direct patient care within both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Each rotation is designed with clearly defined learning objectives and expectations to ensure that interns acquire the competencies necessary to deliver safe and effective care. At the conclusion of the internship year, participants are expected to possess the knowledge, practical abilities, and professional attitudes required to function as independent general practitioners.
The guiding principles of internship training emphasize supervised learning, respect for patient dignity, and the importance of hands-on experience. Appropriate patient care is considered central to the educational mission. The training structure encourages interns to actively engage in healthcare delivery through delegated responsibilities under supervision. This approach enables interns to learn how to examine patients, form diagnoses, manage treatment plans, and develop suitable attitudes toward patients, families, colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team.
Eligibility for the SEHA Medical Internship Program is determined in accordance with requirements set by the Health Authority–Abu Dhabi (HA-AD). Eligible applicants include UAE nationals who have graduated from approved UAE medical schools or from institutions listed in the Avicenna database, formerly known as the WHO Directory of Medical Schools. Expatriate graduates from approved UAE medical schools may also join the program when spaces are available, with a small fee applied to expatriate participants.
Applicants must submit several documents to be considered for the internship program. Required materials include proof of successful completion of an approved medical degree, an official medical school transcript, a passport copy, and a recent color photograph. These documents support verification of eligibility and facilitate placement within clinical training rotations.
